KLONDIKE DERBY

PARK STATION

What is a Klondike Derby? A Klondike Derby is a winter event where the best Scouting skills are shown. A patrol of Scouts pulling a sled with their equipment lashed to it, heads out on the trail following a map.

Scouts will compete for patrol prizes. The top three placing patrols will be awarded individual and patrol prizes. While on the trail, the patrol will come across different stations. At each of these stations, patrols will find orders to complete before passing through each station. The patrols should continue along the course, visiting all the locations and then return to the finish line.

Again this year, we will have an adult sled and an older Scout Sled that can be made up of Scouts and Adults from different units. The older Scout sled should be those Scouts who are at least Star Rank and above. They will be competing for their own divisions prizes using the same course as the other patrols. They will be competing for the Senior Scouters Cup. Scout patrols who score higher than those competing for the Senior Scouters Cup will have additional bragging rights and will be awarded bonus points to their overall score.

Each patrol should be prepared to travel the Klondike Trail with sled or backpack and be able to build and start a fire. Please bring fire building materials. To survive the Klondike winter be prepared to identify trees on the trail and navigate obstacles. Sleds will be inspected before and after traveling the trail.
Always remember to use the Scout Oath and Law while on / off the trail.
