Boy Scouts Honor Distinguished Volunteers With Highest Honor, Silver Beaver Award.

Horseheads, NY (January 28, 2018) – On Thursday night, January 25th at the Horseheads Elks Lodge, members of the Five Rivers Council, BSA gathered together for their annual meeting, dinner and court of honor to celebrate the outstanding achievements of many of their fellow units, scouts and dedicated volunteers.  Special among the awards and the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Silver Beaver Award.

The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not seek it.

This year, the council presented the Silver Beaver award to three distinguished volunteers: Anthony Root, John Miller, and Larry Coon.

Five Rivers Council humbly applauds the continued selflessness of these terrific area volunteers as they help to keep bright the flame of Scouting.
