Rocket Into Scouting Membership Drive Brings Family Fun to New Heights

Elmira, NY – This year, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) are on a mission.  As part of a nationwide membership recruitment drive, the Rocket Into Scouting initiative is putting model rocket kits into the hands of new and existing Cub Scouts throughout the Country, including the Twin Tiers of New York and Pennsylvania.

The Rocket Into Scouting program is designed to take BSA recruiting efforts to new heights. With a focus on fun, this program invites families in the community to experience the adventures that only Scouting can offer. The program leverages an activity that kids love (building and launching rockets), while showing parents that Scouting will foster their child’s creativity, initiative, and sense of wonder.

During an event like no other, Cubs will watch together as their missiles blast off toward the stratosphere as part of organized group rocket launch events.  Free rockets will be provided to any newly registered Cub Scout as they register for their District events (listed below)!  Special pricing is also available for existing Scouts and anyone else interested in participating.  Model rocket kits can be purchased at the Arnot Mall Scout Shop and Service Center.

There are four events scheduled to take place throughout the Council:

  • Andaste District – Saturday, October 3rd at the Cub Spooktacular event at Roundtop Park in Athens, PA
  • Thunderbird District – Saturday, October 24th following the Push Cart event at the VA in Bath, NY
  • Williamson Road District – Saturday, October 3rd following the Push Cart event at Ives Run, PA
  • Indian Waters District – Saturday, October 10th following the Push Cart event at the Chemung County Fairgrounds

Push Cart Relays are a fun and active exhibition held in each of the four districts that make up Five Rivers Council.  Push Carts are home-built vehicles that Scouts design, build, and paint with the help of their parents and volunteer leaders.  At the event, Scouts race in relay teams with the help of other Cub Scouts who take turns pushing their team cart.

Model rockets can be used again and again, allowing Cub Scout families to enjoy their rockets at home.  Cub Scouts and Packs who are not able to attend the district rocket launch/Push Cart events may arrange their own Rocket Into Scouting events at open fields or parks throughout the region.

Information on the Rocket Into Scouting program is available on our website http://www.fiverivers.org/join-us/rocket-into-scouting/61200 or by calling the Scout Shop and Service Center at (607) 796-0699.  Anyone interested in signing up for Scouting can start by finding the nearest pack/troop/unit here: https://beascout.scouting.org.
