Elmira, NY (July 7, 2014) - Katie Noyes, a registered participant in the Five Rivers Council Venture Program, recently received the 2014 Northeast Region Area 3 Venturing Leadership Award.  The award is presented to active Venture participants who hold a leadership position for at least one year and model outstanding leadership and service to the community and their own Venture Crew.

As an active Venturer for over 5 years, Katie Noyes has held leadership positions in her Emmanuel Episcopal Church affiliated Crew as President and as Five Rivers Council Venture Officers Association (VOA) President.  She shows exemplary leadership in coordinating and orchestrating local Crew events, including the Winter Biathlon (see January-February 2104 issue of Scouting Magazine), as well as larger VOA meetings and events.  Katie has worked at Camp Gorton on Waneta Lake and has volunteered with Cub Scout Day Camps in the past.

Katie has also volunteered with numerous organizations outside of the Boy Scouts of America including, women with nontraditional careers and as an apprentice in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Venturing is one of the youth development programs offered by the Boy Scouts of America.  Venturing is designed specifically for young women and men who are age 13 and have completed the eighth grade, or age 14 through 20 years of age who like to squeeze every drop of excitement out of life; traveling to new places, meeting new friends and going on high-adventure excursions. The purpose of the Venture program is to provide positive experiences to help young people become responsible and caring adults.  The Venture program is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities whereas the youth members of each Venture Crew determine which adventures the Crew will participate in.
