Superheroes of Tomorrow Take Over the Arnot Mall

Annual Five Rivers Council Scout Show and Overnight Returns Feb 7-8th

Elmira, NY (February 4th) - This weekend, February 7-8th, hundreds of colorfully uniformed Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and co-ed Venturers will swoop into the Arnot Mall for their annual Scout Show.  This special event is designed to celebrate 104 years of Scouting and to give parents and their children the opportunity to learn more about the various youth programs offered by the Boy Scouts of America. This year's Scout Show mantra will be "Don't judge a hero by the size of his cape".

"The traditional Scout neckerchief may be smaller than a superhero's cape but it's equally important," stated Five Rivers Council, BSA Scout Executive, Bill McCahill.  “This year our young heroes are encouraged to celebrate the extraordinary abilities they've learned through Scouting by dressing up as superheroes and/or in the official Scout uniform."

Friday night will be a sleepover in the mall for youth and leaders. They will watch movies, take part in “can-struction” projects, (with the cans later to be donated to support local food pantries,) and have a blast in a “money-blowing” machine!  A traditional campfire program will wrap up the evening.

During the Saturday Mall Show, Boy Scout troops, Cub Scout packs and co-ed Venturing Crews from throughout the Twin Tiers, along with their adult leaders, will operate interactive booths to showcase their skills, answer questions, recruit new members, and even compete for awards. Anyone visiting the mall that day can take part.  In the past, booths have featured climbing walls, racecars, pinewood derby exhibition racing, games, and Scouting skill demonstrations.

On Saturday, February 8th, Friendly’s will provide Scouts with discount breakfast options.  Other eateries will open early as well. Interactive display booths and activities will run from 10a.m. to 2:30p.m.
