Welcome Letter from the Scout Executive

William McCahill
Dear Friends:
Welcome to the Five Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America! Scouting is alive and well in the ten counties in New York
and Pennsylvania that make up the 5,500 square miles of the council. We are proud to say that we have some of the finest
volunteers and professionals in the country.
Traditional values and community support are the hallmarks of the program here. Our two camps, Gorton in New York state
and Brule' in Pennsylvania, have both been upgraded recently to enhance both summer programming and year-round use. Our
annual Raft Regattas and Mall Scout Show/Sleepover are examples of visionary programming that our volunteers provide.
From Cub Scouting to Learning For Life, families in this council are given a wide selection of fun programs and events
to take part in. Our Scout Service Center is unlike any in the country. The Scout Shop, registration, program,
advancement, and other functions usually found in a council "office" are found in the Arnot Mall, open 363 days a year!
Each district has a locally situated office, and there is a small business office in Elmira. With the large service
area, we are doing our best to be "user-friendly" to our customers, families and community agencies.
From the rolling hills of the Southern Tier in New York state, to the "Endless Mountains" in Pennsylvania, this is a
great place to live, and a great place to be a Scout.
Enjoy our web-site. Please look around, and if we can't answer any of your questions, give us a call or an
e-mail
and we'll do everything we can to help.
Good Scouting!
Sincerely,
William T. McCahill
